A listener’s guide to GTA radio by mood
Skip the game and start from how you feel.
Choosing a station is easier when you start from how you feel rather than from the game. Use this guide as a shortcut.
When you want energy
Go for the hard rock, punk or electro stations. In Vice City that means the rock and underground hip-hop stations; in GTA V there are punk and dance-oriented stations.
When you want nostalgia
Pick the era you grew up in. The pop and new wave stations of Vice City and the classic rock stations of the later games are built for that feeling.
When you want to relax
Soft rock, jazz, soul and ambient-leaning stations work best. GTA IV has a jazz station, and GTA V has several mellow ones.
When you want company
Choose a talk station. The satire of call-in and opinion shows has no music at all, yet it holds attention through writing and performance.
When you want to explore
Pick a station from a genre you rarely hear. Specialist stations are designed for exactly that kind of discovery.
Understand why stations feel the way they do in the anatomy of a station.
